# DELETE /api/v2/comments/{comment}

Delete a comment

- MCP id: comments.destroy
- Scope: api:destroy:project_management
- Scope: api:destroy:project_drive
- Scope: api:destroy:customer_drive
- Scope: api:destroy:organization_drive
- Scope: api:destroy:user_drive
- Permission: project_management::manage_work_items
- Rate cost: 1 unit, write bucket.
- Cache-Control: private, no-store

Permanently deletes one comment and answers `204`.

Deleting is author-only, on the same terms as editing: no permission lets a manager delete somebody else's comment, a DELETE by a non-author is `403` `forbidden-by-policy`, and the caller must additionally be able to comment on the parent (`project_management::manage_work_items` for a work item, read access to the drive document for a drive item), with a token covering that parent's prefix. There is no soft delete, no ?force parameter and no restore verb: a comment comes back only by being posted again, as a new comment with a new id and a new timestamp. A second DELETE of the same id is `404`.

## Parameters
- comment (integer, path): The Comment's numeric id.
- X-Request-Id (header, optional): A correlation id of your own. It is recorded in our logs next to the server's request id but never returned: the response header always carries the server's id. A value that does not match the pattern is discarded silently, never rejected.
- If-Match (header, optional): The ETag a write is conditional on. A stale validator is 412 precondition-failed.

## Response 204

## Errors
- 403 forbidden-by-policy | insufficient-permission | insufficient-token-scope: Forbidden.
  - `forbidden-by-policy`: You did not write this comment. Only its author can delete a comment, and no permission lets anyone else do it. You also get this answer when you can see the work item or drive item the comment belongs to but may not comment on it.
- 412 precondition-failed: Precondition failed.
- 400 idempotency-key-required | invalid-cursor | invalid-query-parameter | malformed-request | unsupported-parameter: Bad request.
- 401 token-expired | unauthenticated: Unauthenticated.
- 404 endpoint-not-found | resource-not-found: Not found.
- 406 not-acceptable: Not acceptable.
- 429 rate-limit-exceeded: Too many requests.
- 500 internal-error: Server error.
- 503 tenant-unavailable: Service unavailable.
