# GET /api/v2/drive-items/{drive_item}/comments

List a drive item's comments

- MCP id: drive-items.comments.index
- Scope: api:read:project_drive
- Scope: api:read:customer_drive
- Scope: api:read:organization_drive
- Scope: api:read:user_drive
- Permission: project_drive::access
- Rate cost: 1 unit, read bucket. `view=detail` makes it 3. Adds: `with_total=1` +2, each include +1.
- Cache-Control: private, no-store

Returns the comment thread on one drive item (the same thread the drive document editor writes), newest first, keyset-paginated.

There is no organisation-wide collection of comments, so this nested path is the only way to list them and `filter[commentable_type]` / `filter[commentable_id]` do not exist: the parent is the path segment. Access to the parent is decided per item (the permission for the owner type, the access inherited from its folder, then any per-item grant), and an archived drive item answers `404`, because comments are hard-deleted and `trashed` is therefore not an accepted parameter on this path. The declared permission is `project_drive::access`; `customer_drive`, `organization_drive` and `user_drive` apply by owner type, and a token covering any of the four is accepted. Pass `include=author` to expand each comment's author; the body is in both views. One comment is read, edited and deleted at its flat path `/comments/{comment}`, listed under Work items.

## Parameters
- drive_item (integer, path): The DriveItem's numeric id. Accepts a soft-deleted record.
- view (string, optional): Which field set to render.
- per_page (integer 1 to 100, optional): Rows per page. At most 25 when `include` names a to-many relation; a larger value is 400 invalid-query-parameter.
- cursor (string, optional): Opaque keyset cursor from a previous page's links.next. Never construct one by hand.
- with_total (boolean, optional): Whether meta.page.total is counted for this request.
- filter[author_id] (integer, optional): Id of the comment's author. Send together with `author_type`.
- filter[author_type] (string, optional): Type of the comment's author. `user` is the only value in v2.0. Send together with `author_id`.
- filter[created_at] (timestamp (YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssZ), optional): Creation timestamp. Pair with `sort=id` for a stable full export. Operators: = gte lt.
- filter[updated_at] (timestamp (YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssZ), optional): Last-write timestamp. Use for incremental sync. Operators: = gte lt.
- sort (string, optional): Up to three keys, comma-separated, each optionally prefixed with `-` for descending.
- include (string, optional): Comma-separated names to inline, at most five.
- trashed (string, optional): Whether soft-deleted rows are included.
- X-Request-Id (header, optional): A correlation id of your own. It is recorded in our logs next to the server's request id but never returned: the response header always carries the server's id. A value that does not match the pattern is discarded silently, never rejected.
- If-None-Match (header, optional): The ETag a read is conditional on. A match is answered 304 with no body.

## Response 200
- id (integer, required): Unique identifier.
- body (html, required): Comment body as rich text. HTML from the plnnrly editor, sanitised on the way out, so what you read back can differ from the bytes you sent. Mention spans (`<span data-type="mention" data-id="3">`) survive untouched and may be posted back verbatim; constructing a new mention is not supported in v2.0.
- author_type (string, required): The kind of record `author` points at; it says which branch of `author` applies.
- author_id (integer, required): The id of the record `author` points at.
- author (Ref or UserSummary, required): Who wrote the comment. Renders as `{"id": N}` unless `?include=author` expands it, which additionally requires the users prefix's read grant and a token covering it.
- commentable_type (string, required): The kind of record `commentable` points at; it says which branch of `commentable` applies.
- commentable_id (integer, required): The id of the record `commentable` points at.
- commentable (Ref, required): The record the comment hangs off, as a reference. Look it up from `commentable_type` and `commentable_id` with `GET /api/v2/work-items/{id}` or GET `/api/v2/drive-items/{id}`. It is not expandable: `?include=commentable` is a `400`.
- created_at (timestamp (YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssZ), required): When the comment was posted.
- updated_at (timestamp (YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssZ), required): Last-write timestamp; use for incremental sync, and as the revision the strong `ETag` is derived from.
- links (CommentLinks, required)
  - self (url, required): The canonical URI of this record.
