# DELETE /api/v2/drive-items/{drive_item}

Archive a drive item

- MCP id: drive-items.destroy
- Scope: api:destroy:project_drive
- Scope: api:destroy:customer_drive
- Scope: api:destroy:organization_drive
- Scope: api:destroy:user_drive
- Permission: project_drive::create
- Rate cost: 1 unit, write bucket.
- Cache-Control: private, no-store

Archives a drive item.

This is plnnrly's Archive action, and it is reversible with `POST /api/v2/drive-items/{drive_item}/actions/restore`. It is a soft delete: the item keeps its body, its comments and its files, and who archived it is recorded in `archived_by`. There is no permanent delete through the API, so `force` is not an accepted parameter. Archiving an already-archived item answers `204` as well, so a retry after a timeout is safe. The declared permission is `project_drive::create`, the same permission as editing and a superset of what the record rule checks: `{owner}_drive::access` plus edit access on the item.

## Parameters
- drive_item (integer, path): The DriveItem's numeric id. Accepts a soft-deleted record.
- X-Request-Id (header, optional): A correlation id of your own. It is recorded in our logs next to the server's request id but never returned: the response header always carries the server's id. A value that does not match the pattern is discarded silently, never rejected.
- If-Match (header, optional): The ETag a write is conditional on. A stale validator is 412 precondition-failed.

## Response 204
