# DELETE /api/v2/tasks/{task}

Delete a task

- MCP id: tasks.destroy
- Scope: api:destroy:kanban
- Permission: kanban::manage_self
- Rate cost: 1 unit, write bucket.
- Cache-Control: private, no-store

Deletes a task permanently and answers `204`: it uses no soft deletes, so there is no restore verb and no force parameter, and a deleted task comes back only by being re-created through `POST projects/{project}/tasks`, appended to the end of the board rather than to its old position.

A task carrying logged time is deleted without complaint: there is no guard on this operation. Nothing is deleted with it either: worklogs, planning events, Outlook events and work items that pointed at the task survive and are detached, their task reference set to `null`. The delete is recorded in the owning project's activity timeline rather than a timeline of its own, but unlike an update it does not bump the project's `updated_at`, so an incremental `filter[updated_at][gte]` window on projects will not show it.

## Parameters
- task (integer, path): The Task's numeric id.
- X-Request-Id (header, optional): A correlation id of your own. It is recorded in our logs next to the server's request id but never returned: the response header always carries the server's id. A value that does not match the pattern is discarded silently, never rejected.
- If-Match (header, optional): The ETag a write is conditional on. A stale validator is 412 precondition-failed.
