# DELETE /api/v2/timers/{timer}

Discard a timer

- MCP id: timers.destroy
- Scope: api:destroy:hours
- Permission: none, the record's own rules still apply
- Rate cost: 1 unit, write bucket.
- Cache-Control: private, no-store

Permanently deletes a timer, like discarding it in plnnrly.

This resource is hard-delete: there is no restore action, no `force` parameter, no `trashed` parameter and no deletion signal for a sync client. Nothing blocks the delete, and the elapsed minutes are simply lost: to keep them, POST the hours to `/api/v2/worklogs` first and delete the timer afterwards. Those two calls are not atomic: deleting first loses the minutes, and crashing between them leaves a stale timer running. This operation declares no permission of its own: you may delete your own timers, and deleting another employee's timer additionally requires `times::update_others`.

## Parameters
- timer (integer, path): The Timer's numeric id.
- X-Request-Id (header, optional): A correlation id of your own. It is recorded in our logs next to the server's request id but never returned: the response header always carries the server's id. A value that does not match the pattern is discarded silently, never rejected.
- If-Match (header, optional): The ETag a write is conditional on. A stale validator is 412 precondition-failed.
