POST/checkins

Check in

POSThttps://<your-url>/api/v2/checkins

MCP id checkins.storeAlso on this path: GET List checkins

View as Markdown openapi.json

Opens a checkin for the authenticated user and returns it with a Location header.

Access

Token scope
api:write:checkins

Without it: 403 insufficient-token-scope.

Permission
None. The record's own rules still apply.
Rate cost
1 unit, write bucket. A write costs the same whatever view you ask for.
Also
Accepts Idempotency-Key. Never cached: private, no-store. Unknown body keys are refused, never dropped.

Both are checked, scope first. A token never does more than its user. How access is checked

user_id is not accepted: a checkin always belongs to the caller, and sending the key is a 422; there is no way to check another employee in, just as there is none in plnnrly. Omit checked_in_at to clock in now. Send checked_out_at as well to record an already-finished period in one call, which is what a backfill client does. Nothing rejects a second still-open checkin: plnnrly hides its check-in button while one is open, but this endpoint answers 201 either way, so check filter[checked_out_at][null]=true first if you need that guarantee. This operation declares no permission of its own, but checking in still requires checkins::read, so unlike the check-in button in plnnrly, this endpoint is not open to every employee.

Query parameters

Unknown parameters are refused with 400, naming the parameter.

Request headers

X-Request-Idstringpattern

A correlation id of your own. It is recorded in our logs next to the server's request id but never returned: the response header always carries the server's id. A value that does not match the pattern is discarded silently, never rejected.

Idempotency-Keystring≤ 255

A caller-chosen key that makes this POST safe to retry. Replaying it returns the original response with Idempotency-Replayed: true.

Request body

Unknown keys are refused with 422, naming the key.

checked_in_attimestamp (YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssZ)

When the employee clocked in.

checked_out_attimestamp (YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ssZ) or null

When the employee clocked out, or null while the checkin is still open. A null value marks the checkin plnnrly shows as active.

Must be on or after checked_in_at.

Response 201

Returns a Checkin in the detail view.
